A Reflection on FCOC

Hello fellow Arrowmen! My name is Catherine Archer from Waupecan Lodge here to fill you in on all you may have missed at FCOC and ACT.

ACT was a fantastic interactive training that helped you think about taking the necessary steps to make our lodges some of the strongest in the nation. After all, Section G9 is the “best in the Midwest!” The training covered challenges we face as lodges, including communication, event planning, inductions, and member retention. We had the chance to collaborate with our Gemini partner lodges and put our heads together with other Section G9 lodges.

The next day was the Fall Council of Chiefs (FCOC), and it was great to meet even more people in our section. We have a fun group of people in Section G9, and it was exciting to hear a report from each lodge chief and to get to know a little more about their events and plans. Let’s not forget the logo for Conclave 2023 was voted on by those who attended! I can’t wait to see you all at this lumberjack-themed event! Also, committees gathered to plan this exciting spring event, so get involved if you can.

What FCOC and ACT did best was give people in Section G9 a chance for fun and fellowship. Everyone who attended played many games, watched a movie, and had fun. Even Section Chief Collin Welke and Vice Chief Kyle Land got into the spirit when they accepted the “One Chip Challenge” turning their tongues blue and their faces pale from the heat of the one spicy chip they shared! Like any event, it’s all about making it fun and enjoying the people who make it great!

Here are a few of our member’s thoughts following the weekend:

“My favorite part of it was all the connections I made. I knew maybe only two or three people outside of my lodge but now I have a lot of firm friendships and connections throughout the section.” —Macey K., Takhone

“The ACT conference was so much fun! I loved seeing the pile of jolly ranchers on the table after each training.” —Catherine A., Waupecan

“I encourage all Arrowmen to go to FCOC. It is a lot different than any other leadership training.” —Evan S., Kanwa tho

“At FCOC, the breakouts let you interact and know what you want to do. It was super helpful because you get to ask your questions.” —Emilyn C., Takhone

“It was very nice to meet people from Blackhawk Council and see the different challenges that other lodges and councils face.” —Dakota L., Lowaneu Allanque

“My favorite part of FCOC was meeting all the other lodge chiefs and people from different lodges.” —Will O., Waupecan
